"Too close to call" is how many of the competitors are viewing this year’s Wave World Tour. The final event of the season, The Irish Wave Grand Prix, has yet to kick off with any of the heats, but weather forecasters are expecting an improvement in windsurfing conditions over the next couple of days. Today light southerly winds prevailed with wind speeds never going beyond 5 to 6 knots. All involved stayed optimistic however, keeping a close eye on conditions and getting excited about finally having the chance to compete.

Daida Ruano Moreno (North, Mistral) is currently leading the women’s section on the World Tour - and this event is extremely important in terms of her taking the World Title again. "As it stands, if I come in first or second I should be safe, but to be certain I have to go out to win", she commented. Swiss competitor Karin Jaggi (Arrows, F2) is a mere 33 points behind the first place position, and if she were to beat Daida to first place, the pair would share the title. Daida noted ; "I’m really looking forward to the Irish conditions picking up. Pozo was great this year in terms of freestyle and wave and Fuerteventura was fantastic for freestyle. It would be great to round off the competition on a high."

Things are equally as tight on the men’s leader board, where the top four surfers are also separated from each other by just 33 points.

Nik Baker (North Sails, Mistral), who is number three as things stand said ; "Usually the Irish conditions suit me, but it’s a very tough competition this year. I haven’t really worked out who exactly has to come where for me to move up a place. I just know that I have to do my best and that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m aiming to come in first."

Kevin Pritchard (Gaastra, Bic), who is currently topping the leader board, was equally focused. "It’s all to play for at this stage. I hope to hang on in there and to take the title, but Bjorn Dunkerbeck (Neil Pryde, Proof) is coming up close behind me and he’s a very strong windsurfer. His foot injury has healed up well, so he’ll be putting everything into this last stage."

Ireland’s Dan Spencer (Neil Pryde, JP) names Bjorn Dunkerbeck (Neil Pryde, Proof), Kauli Seadi (Naish), Greg Allaway (Neil Pryde, JP), Francisco Goya (Arrows, Fanatic) and Finn Mullen as possible contenders for the Title in Ireland. Dan said ; "It really depends on conditions, but if the wind really picks up and we get some waves I think Bjorn will do really well. Everyone’s gonna be stoked once it gets going".
