Rolex IMS Offshore World Championship

"Brava Q8" wins the Rolex IMS World Championship 2002

samedi 25 mai 2002

Pasquale Landolfi’s "Brava Q8" steps up to the podium in the division A class of the Rolex IMS Offshore World Championship, organized in the blue waters of Capri by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, in collaboration with the Association of Circoli Velici del Golfo di Napoli and the Yacht Club Capri.

Landolfi’s boat – racing with the YCCS burgee - with Antonio Sodo Migliori as skipper, Paul Cayard as tactician and the Varesin strategic Flavio Favini - has conquered the first place at the end of a spectacular week, preceding the Lorenzo Bressani’s Grand Soleil 44 "Wind", and "Giacomelli Sport", the IMX 45 skippered by the handsome Gabriele Benussi, who has now become the heartbreaker of Capri’s young girls. With this success, "BravaQ8" has added a new prestigious victory to his rich palmarès : in ’89 in the Gulf waters of Neaples, Landolfi won his first One Ton Cup, to which have been added another One Ton Victory, two World ILC 40 Championships, the Admiral’s Cup in ’95 and the World 50 ft Championship, won last year in Palma de Mallorca’s waters with Flavio Favini and Paul Cayard.

In the division B class, the victory went to Manfredo Toninelli’s "Team Revolution", in front of Francesco Siculiana’s "Don Alvaro" and followed by "Bix" , first Italian boat belonging to a group of stockowners, which races with the burgee of the Club Nautico della Vela. Among the crews that should be highlighted, is to point out the brilliant exhibition of "Fram XV" of the King of Norway Harald V (placed at the fourth position in A division) and "Breeze" of Vincenzo Onorato (placed at the fifth position in A division) who will take part of the next America’s Cup America's Cup #AmericasCup in October.

The Rolex IMS Offshore World Championship has taken place in the waters of the turquoise island with variable weather conditions changing from sunshine to cloudy and rainy days with rough waters ; concluding with today’s north-east wind of over 15 knots of intensity. The prize giving ceremony took place in the Capri’s Marina Grande. The new World Champion was given by Patrick Heiniger, the President of Rolex, the prestigious Trophy and one "Yachtmaster Rolesium" , a platinum and steel Rolex watch. This evening, the gala event organized by Rolex at Capri’s Certosa will host more than 700 vip’s and sportsmen which have given life to this IMS Championship.
