Jules Verne Trophy

Nick Moloney: "Thank you Bruno for an "extraordinary" adventure"

Crew reactions from Brest

Tuesday 7 May 2002

First quotes from the crew new record Record #sailingrecord holder of the Jules Verne Trophy Jules Verne Trophy #TropheeJulesVerne in 64 days 8 hours 37 minutes and 24 seconds.

Bruno Peyron: "A great adventure! In 1993, we opened a way rather like pioneers. In 2002, we are in the logic of technological evolution initiated last year by The Race. We can now cross oceans extremely quickly with greater facility."

Yann Eliès: "This Trophy is a dream come true, and I would like to thank Bruno for giving "kids" like Jojo (Sébastien Josse) and myself this chance. I hope that I lived up to his expectations. I’ve learnt an enormous amount, especially on how to manage a race intelligently, by attacking only at the right time. A race can be won without going hell for leather!"

Sébastien Josse: "I’ve discovered another dimension of sailing, other oceans, another boat, and sailing as a crew... Thank you Bruno for having enabled me to realise the dream of every sailor."

Nick Moloney: "Thank you Bruno for an "extraordinary" adventure. Thanks to the crew for a super adventure."

Vladimir Dzalda Lyndis: "It’s difficult to realise. As part of the shore team I didn’t think I would be sailing, then it all happened very fast, the preparation, the start and the record Record #sailingrecord ..."

Florent Chastel: "A head full of images... a superb sporting, technological and above all human experience."

Jean-Baptiste Epron: "I’ve learnt a lot, both as a sailor and in the management of a great communications event?"

Hervé Jan: "The satisfaction of having pulled off an audacious gamble. A job well done."

Ronan le Goff: "Thank you Bruno."

Yves le Blévec: "Coming back to earth is difficult. I’ve had a lot of fun, I’m ready to go again to place the bar even higher."

Philippe Péché: "I’m very lucky to have shared this fabulous adventure, on a fabulous boat, with a fabulous crew..."

Benoit Briand: "Great images. Astonished and happy that Bruno put his confidence in me. Fantastic group life."

Gilles Chiorri: "A great maritime adventure. Sailing round the world is an art, which calls on multiple competencies, the first of which is weather analysis, and I would like to thank the technicians from Météo Consult with whom we communicated a lot during the race. It was a great human adventure. The secret was in the casting, and Bruno made the right choices."

Didier Quillot, general manager of Orange: "We are very happy and very proud this evening. The 7500 employees of Orange are thrilled about this technological gamble and this superb sports result."

Bruno Peyron :
- Trophy: "The Jules Verne is a long distance race. It can be won or lost almost anywhere."
- Crew: "Our crew was a multidisciplinary commando, the best at all jobs so that we would never be caught out."
- Fear: The Indian treated us to some fantastic waves. The iceberg revived a few unconscious fears..."
- Catamaran: They are the boats I know best; in my opinion they are the best suited for these circumnavigations."
- Kersauson: "We missed the duel with him, at least for the cat/tri confrontation? It’ll be for another time."
- Future: "The future of ocean racing depends on the versatility of the best sailors in the world who will prove themselves in all classes of ocean sailing, from minis to maxis."
