Loïck Peyron’s crew aboard the 40 meters long trimaran Banque Populaire V is back on the northern hemisphere. The team crossed the equator line à 12:17 (french hour) this Friday, after 38 days, 2 hours, 45 minutes and 48 seconds from their start from Ushant (west of France). By the way, they broke the record Ushant - equator by 3 days 18 hours and 24 minutes. A record previously held by Franck Cammas’ trimaran Groupama 3.

"We crossed the equator line at full speed" said Loïck Peyon. "We are sailing at 35 knots on a flat sea. It is great sailing. The trimaran does not suffers and people on board no more. Everybody is happy, especially the young Cape-Horners. Hello again Northern hemisphere ! This record is really going well. This record will be hard to broke but this is still possible and that is the good news..."

From equator to equator, Banque Populaire V’s crew established a new record (to be validated by the WSSRC). With 32 days, 11 hours, 51 minutes and 30 seconds, the sailed more than one day faster than did Loïck’s brother, Bruno, aboard the catamaran Orange 2 in 2005.

Sailing at an average speed of 26,31 knots from their start, the 14 guys still have one week to sail to reach Ushant and establish the new Jules Verne Trophy record.
