Sunset Beach delivers great conditions for a spectacular finals day that saw dramatic action from start to finish and Champions crowned at Stop #1 of the 2017 APP World Tour.

The day started out with anxiety for organizers as there was only small surf Surf #Surf on offer at daybreak, with the next swell scheduled to arrive the following evening, too late for the contest to capitalize on with the closing of the waiting period the 24th.

However, as the sun came up and athletes and organizers ramped up for the start of the quarterfinals, as if by cue, Sunset turned on and delivered what was a magical day of competition, propelling the performance from the last 16 Men and Last 4 Women to a whole new level.

After 4 epic days of competition at this iconic North Shore wave, Maui’s Kai Lenny and Florida’s Izzi Gomez were able to secure victory at the 2017 Sunset Beach Pro and kick of their World Championship Tour season in style.

In a dramatic Final heat here at stop #2 of the 2015 Stand Up World Series, Kai Lenny (Naish) digs deep and resets himself mid way through to find a window of opportunity while rounding the final buoy to take the win in the sprint racing component of the Victoria Cup Hayama Pro. Once round the buoy, he accelerated to move into second past the World Rankings leader Connor Baxter (Starboard), then past Casper to move into first and take victory on this final day of action.

Kai Lenny secures an impressive 4th Stand Up World Surfing Title in France

Coming into La Torche, Kai Lenny (Naish) was brimming with confidence as he prepared to defend his 2013 World and Event Titles at this climactic final rankings event of the 2014 season. Kai made quick work of his early heats, building momentum until he climaxed in the all important quarterfinals, where he posted a near perfect heat score total (19pts out of a possible 20 ) for a flawless showcase of high performance stand up paddle surfing.

Sébastien Destremau takes 18th place to bring the Vendée Globe to a close

Sébastien Destremau (TechnoFirst–faceOcean) crossed the Vendée Globe finish line off Les Sables d’Olonne in eighteenth place at 00hrs 40min et 18 sec UTC on saturday 11th March 2017 after 124 days, 12 hours, 38 minutes and 18 seconds of racing since the start on 6th November. The skipper from Toulon is the final competitor to complete this eighth edition of the non-stop solo round the world race. The curtain falls on the 2016-2017 Vendée Globe fifty days after the winner, Armel Le Cléac’h (Banque Populaire VIII), who finished on 19th January.
