Three over Three : Giancarlo Pedote wins the Mini en Mai, the third race of the circuit Mini 6.50 in which it participates aboard his prototype Prysmian ITA 747 , leading to head the entire race.

An uncertain weather and a not defined path have marked the start ofthis new regatta organized by the Société Nautique de La Trinité- sur- Mer, which kicked off Tuesday, May 20th at 14:08 in the Bay of Quiberon, in a regime of winds 12-14 knots from the W-SW .

Skippers left the harbor holding a weather report and 6 possible endings paths, designed by the race director Yves Le Blévec to meet the forecast uncertainty . In order to observe the evolution until the last of the conditions , the race director set out only an initial part of the path (16 mn in the Bay of Quiberon and 90 passing by the islands Glenan to Belle-Ile ) in order to choose later , according to forecasts, the final leg , which was communicated to the skipper on their way to Belle- Ile.

The first to switch from Belle-Ile was Giancarlo Pedote that , after a night of light winds (5-10 knots from the East sector ) which required so meticulous and precise adjustments , reported his transition at 9:29 and 45 seconds.

With already an advantage of 6.5 miles accumulated on the second, Giancarlo was able to take off for the remaining 310 miles , down to the Isle of Ré ( with passing under the famous bridge ) and back to Trinité sur Mer through the Jument .

Considering the two BMS ( " Bulletin météorologique spécial " weather bulletins announcing conditions that may present a hazard to navigation) , one in the north of the island of Groix and the other in the south of the Gironde , the management has chosen to complete the race course by bringing down the skippers in the south, where the winds were not expected to exceed 30 knots.

"The two MDBs have , as expected, a bit reduced our field of action, but the weather forecast will still allow to continue the race. If the predictions are highly variable in the north , to the south the situation has stabilized , allowing us to send down the skipper to the Island of Ré . " Said Yves Le Blévec announcing his choice.

The second night marked a new decision of the race direction : the reduction of final path with the elimination of the transition to Jument before returning to the Trinité- sur- Mer.

As announced , the winds began to increase gradually , reaching 30 knots with higher gusts , and the sea conditions have deteriorated : a situation which in some cases has caused and in some cases contributed to the abandonment of many skippers .

By mid-afternoon on Wednesday , 18 dropouts were already declared ; they were24 on Thursday morning : two-thirds of the fleet had either decided to leave the race course and return to port .

Yves Le Blévec , commented on what happened in the first race he directed : " The sailing conditions are not pleasant , but that’s part of the race. Of course it is better to stop rather than get in trouble . All decisions are respectable and we respect them . "

Giancarlo has passed under the bridge of the island of Ré at 5:45 on Thursday morning , after a night of maneuvers in a sea agitated by strong gusts of wind. It could then begin the ascent to the port of arrival pushed by winds of 18-20 knots from the S -SW returned to growth during the morning until 40-45 knots.

After 5 hours and a half was the Ile d’Yeu , and crossed the finish line at 17.04, winning his third race of the year on three disputed.
