The Pornichet Select race, the second race of the Atlantic Class Mini 6.50, one of the most demanding on the calendar with its 300 miles off the coast of Brittany, is over. After leading most of the race, Giancarlo finished second (just a minute from Gwénolé Gahinet) with its proto Prysmian 747. This is the second podium in two races.
The competition was held in light wind conditions, characterized by a certain instability that has played an important role in the rankings, even in the final phase :
"It happened, more than once, that after a drop of wind a new gust came to push the boats behind me to join me. And this happened also at the end of the race, when the wind came from offshore and reported Gwenolé to have a direct contact with me, nullifying once again the advantage that I had thanks to a meticulouse management of the boat and a good gybing. At 5 miles from the arrival, we were sailing really close and Gwenolé was able to ride a wave over me and take an advantage that was enough to cross the line first. I then played the card of the last jibe, not to leave anything unattended, but what I got was simply losing 50 seconds more. "
A race which confirms the performance of the boat in light wind conditions.
"In Les Sables d’Olonne, I realized that a fishing net was entangled in the keel. What I did was to allert Gwénolé and Benoit that I would have dived into the sea asking them to watch over my boat (we were sailing in view) and call for help if I had not called them again after approx. 5 minutes. I was going to dive without any diving gear. I lowered the sails and I dove with a knife to cut the net. The operation itself has not been long, but the water was quite cold and the fact that I had to stop the boat completely made me lose time. And both Gwénolé and Benoit passed me."
