The great sailor form New Zealand has been killed in Amazonia this Thursday said Jour J Agency at the Paris boat show.
Sir Peter Blake, 53 yo, born in Auckland on October 1948 1st, has been killed by “pirates” during his expedition on the Amazon river.
From spetember, Peter Blake and his team which includes the french photographer Franck Socha was in Brazil Amazon for his first expedition of his BLAKExpeditions programm.
At the helm of past Jean-Lou Etienne’s Antarctica, an aluminium monohull, Peter Blake wanted to make people understand the need to protect water. “The objective of blakexpeditions is to help protect the waters of the world and, so, life in, on and around those waters. To help achieve this, blakexpeditions will undertake voyages to the areas of the world which are key to the planet’s ecosystem, including the Antarctic, the Arctic and the great rivers” says his web site.
Winner of the Whitbread, holder of the Trophée Jules Vernes and double winner of the America’s Cup, Sir Peter Blake was the most famous Kiwi sailor. He was knighted in 1991 by Queen Elizabeth II.
