New French IAAC boat on construction

vendredi 2 novembre 2001Christophe Guigueno

From Monday november 5th, begins at Multiplast shipyard in Vannes, France, the building of the first new french IAAC boat for the next Louis Vuitton Cup.

The French design team which includes Daniel Andrieu, Hervé Devaux and Bernard Nivelt, works from one year and a half on the design of the monohull from the design of 6e Sens. Six months of work -20,000 hours- are scheduled in the shipyard which have already built 6e Sens but also Club Med, winner of The Race, and many other maxi multihulls.

The hull shape has been tested at Wolfson Unit Tank Testing in Southampton - the same than for both GBR Challenge and Team New Zealand. Fifteen 1/4 models have been built for these tests.

Luc Gelusseau said : “It is not a boat of compromise, and no more an extreme concept. It is not a futurist design but a design for the future. Our goal is to come back with the Cup in France.”
