Orange slowed in the Da Cuhna high
Deliberately, and because there is no other choice, Orange has surrendered herself to the anticyclone. The wild run started under Australia has butted up, off Tristan da Cunha, against the soft belly of high pressure circulating off Africa. Speeds are tumbling. The sails are barely being filled. Helmsmen and trimmers are hunting the tiniest (...) -

Team News Corp first into the Cheasepeake Bay
Yesterday’s chess game for the Volvo Ocean Race fleet appears now to have changed into a game of snakes and ladders, dependent on the roll of the dice with the fickle conditions and complex current scenarios. With the boats so close together, the main factor for the tacticians will be to minimise the losses against the rest of the (...) -

Orange goes East…
The high is still filling. It is pushing away the low. Collusive, these two systems seem to be joining forces to bar Orange’s route back up the heart of the South Atlantic. The emergency exit envisaged yesterday to the east of the centre of high pressure has evaporated in Peyron’s face, far off the African coast. Behind, the low is (...) -

CHESS - The Next Move
Yacht racing has often been likened to a three-dimensional game of chess and for the navigators and tacticians on their way to Baltimore, juggling the different moves and anticipating the final stages of this short leg, will prove just as taxing. Mark Rudiger from ASSA ABLOY wrote on his way into Auckland that he would be giving up gambling, (...) -

Orange credited with an average speed of 23.05
As expected since Sunday evening, the maxi-catamaran Orange is heading NE, progressively distancing herself from the South American coast. The Marseilles Giant has decided to favour and invest in a route not often attempted in previous circumnavigations in order to avoid tackling head on a low with winds estimated at 60 knots. Bruno Peyron (...) -

IF ONLY...
"If only", a saying which is widely used in the modern world. "If only I had got out of bed earlier this morning‚ can cover a plethora of disasters throughout the rest of the day, which could be traced back to that extra ten minutes under the duvet! -

Dramatic start in Miami for leg six of the Volvo Ocean Race

This is why we do it! for Maiden
It’s now midday at the start of the fourth day and we are charging along in near perfect conditions. For the first time since the start we have not had to do a sail change for our entire watch. The numbers have been consistently high and on course.
