Orange is less than 1000 nm from Brittany
"It does one good to see the GPS with three figures now..." said Sébastien Josse during today’s radio chat session. 960 nautical miles to go at 0800 this morning and the heading is 62° or NE: it’s beginning to smell of Brittany! The helm was put ’right hand down a bit’ at about 1800 yesterday evening and this time (...) -

520 miles at an average of 21.66 knots over the last 24 hours 24 hours 24 hours best distance covered records at 1000 this morning: needless to say that the maxi-catamaran Orange is making the most of this trade wind that is pushing them along at a crisp pace towards the Azores high. The Marseilles Giant was plotted today 700 mils to the SW (...) -

Orange through the Azores high
The next three days will be under strict surveillance... Indeed, the maxi-cat Orange is continuing to progress in a NE trade wind, that’s to say fairly close to the wind and it should take them as far as the edge of the Azores high which is less than 1,000 nm to the north before turning towards (...) -

Peyron’s catamaran in an orange world
"The scenery was a bit lunar last night" said Bruno Peyron during the chat session today. "There was a sort of orange veil before us". Gilles Chiorri chipped in: "We’re in a completely Orange world". After an explanation, we realised that the maxi-catamaran Orange was covered with orange sand, coming all the way from the African deserts. (...) -

Orange’s heading is gently taking her towards the NW...
The Marseilles Giant is in a situation where she is forced to curve her route towards the American continent. While the main reason is eventually to skirt round the Azores high to the west, right now she is being forced to cope with a 12-knot northerly headwind, which means she has got to... beat. Just the point of sailing she hates and now (...) -

Orange crosses the equator five days ahead of Sport Elec’s time
Crossing the Equator is not the only piece of news for Orange today. Bruno Peyron chose the boat’s entry into the northern hemisphere as the moment to reveal the shadow which has a cast over the maxi-cat’s fine course in the South Atlantic. The titanium ball supporting the mast has cracked. It is quite impossible to assess the (...) -

Maiden II narrowly missed the record
In a frustrating finale to Maiden II’s westbound transatlantic crossing, the Bahamian winds denied the crew the opportunity to break the two-year-old record Record #sailingrecord . With 200 miles remaining to break the record Record #sailingrecord last night, the local winds died, leaving a few knots of upwind breeze for the (...) -

Orange back in the match
Indeed, there wasn’t much of an alternative to the long gybe to the east started a week ago by the maxi-cat Orange after passing the Falklands. But skirting the enormous low that swept in from Argentina round to the east, and the crossing of the ridge of high pressure the day before yesterday was a risky exercise whose success lay as (...)
